Aroma Chundan Wins Raja Pramukhan Trophy at Champakulam Moolam Boat Race June 29, 2026:
Aroma Chundan, rowed by the Aroma Boat Club, Pooyappilly (Kollam), emerged victorious in the prestigious Moolam Boat Race held on the Pampa River at Champakulam in Kuttanad on Monday, clinching the coveted Raja Pramukhan Trophy.
Nadubhagom Chundan, representing the Nadubhagom Boat Club, finished in second place, while Naduvileparamban Chundan, steered by the NCDC Boat Club, Kumarakom, secured the third position. A total of seven snake boats participated in the Chundan Vallam category.
Other Race Results
Competitions were also conducted in the Veppu and Iruttukuthi categories.
Veppu A Grade: Jayshot Pulickathara, rowed by the Jayasree Boat Club, Veliyanad, claimed the title.
Veppu B Grade: Punnatharapurackal, representing the Kondakkal Boat Club, Nadubhagom, emerged as the winner.
Iruttukuthi A Grade: P.G. Kannan, rowed by the MBC Boat Club, Mepral, secured first place.
Iruttukuthi B Grade: St. Joseph, representing the Kings Boat Club, Vaisyabhagom, won the event.
Traditional Rituals
Traditional rituals associated with the historic boat race were observed before the competitions. Representatives of the Travancore Devaswom Board visited the Champakulam Madathil Temple, the Mappilassery ancestral home, and St. Mary's Basilica, Kalloorkad, as part of the customary ceremonies.
Inauguration and Dignitaries
Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh inaugurated the event and said the government was considering enhancing financial assistance for the boat race. He also assured that the event would continue to receive government support in the coming years.
District Collector Shaji V. Nair hoisted the race flag, while Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, presented trophies to the winners. Kuttanad MLA Reji Cheriyan presided over the inaugural function.
