The Champions Boat League (CBL) 2026 promises to be another spectacular celebration of Kerala’s centuries-old tradition of vallam kali, or snake-boat racing. Combining the excitement of a modern professional sporting league with the cultural heritage of Kerala’s backwaters, the CBL has transformed traditional boat racing into a state-wide sporting and tourism attraction. The Champions Boat League was conceived as an IPL-style competition for Chundan Vallams, the long, elegant snake boats that have become an iconic symbol of Kerala. The league gives traditional boat races a structured competitive format in which participating boats accumulate points over a series of races, with the team securing the highest overall points emerging as the league champion. Kerala Tourism describes the league as an initiative aimed at protecting and promoting the state's traditional boat-racing culture while developing it as an international tourism product
