According to history James Darragh and Henry Smail established Darrah Smail & Co., the first coir factory in Alappuzha in 1859. A large number of industrialists followed suit to set up factories in alappuzha. There is a souvenir shop also attached to the museum. The National Institute of Coir Research and Training is also located here.. .
